Filge's Beloved Tomb Mote

A sentient, foot-tall collection of fur, bone, and assorted grave debris, a tomb mote is a carrier of disease, a swift swimmer, an able fighter, and a general help-mate to the necromancer who animated it. In addition to these qualities, Motey is currently Filge's only undead minion, but is beginning to prove he's more than just a homunculus. Through pantomime and a series of low, hissing growls, Motey communicates with anyone who will listen to him. Although he wasn't created with a tongue, the creature seems to enjoy sampling substances with a variety of textures, impressing Vincent with his tolerance for rum, and disgusting the party with his penchant for guzzling lamp oil. Motey seems to enjoy being petted and hugged, and is always happy to return the favor...regardless of how filthy he might be at the time. His other hobbies include swimming in the mysterious and ancient inky black pool discovered by the party outside the labyrinth of Vecna, learning more about how to act like a person, and making fun of the other party members via pantomime. Motey tends to wander off from time to time, though what unwholesome activities he might engage in on those sojourns is anyone's guess. Talin finds the creature irresistably cute, and is teaching him how to do helpful things, like clean up after his messy master, and even has high hopes of teaching him to read and write, so that he can better communicate with the group. What dark desires lurk in the mind of a tomb mote? This may be discovered all too soon.

Motey has demonstrated a great aptitude for reading, and has begun communicating quite fluently via flash cards, although some misunderstandings still occur. For reasons the party doesn't quite understand, Motey has begun collecting slugs, storing them in his gullet for safekeeping. He seems to enjoy arranging them in different patterns and designs, and sometimes seems to play with them like dolls, giving them names such as "Slug-Thomas" or "Slug-Fern." The creatures inevitably meet their demise when Motey squeezes too hard or forgets he's not supposed to bite them, but Motey is not concerned. There are always plenty of slugs. The implications of this attitude are unnerving at best.
