Known by the party as "Talin's little brother," Tarn is a unique character in his own right. He demonstrated great bravery when he accompanied his sister and her friends to the Whispering Cairn, and has always had great empathy towards animals. His greatest love, though, is his family, and his fierce protectiveness of his loved ones tends to be the only thing that can incite the boy to a demonstration of his anger. His older sisters would good-naturedly tease him about not having a bit more fun, but they greatly valued his insights and judgement of character.

Tarn is a likeable boy, a hard worker, and wise beyond his years. Unfortunately, he has had the dubious honor of growing up in Diamond Lake, which has more than slightly colored his perceptions of the world. Quiet and observant, he has watched good men suffer for their honesty, girls with their innocence stripped away for the sake of a few silvers, and the poor beaten and practically enslaved for the crime of appearing hungry and discontent in public. Everyone who knows Tarn realizes he posesses a keener wit and sharper senses than most, but not even his family realizes what conclusions he has come to. Unlike his eldest sister, Tess, who escaped into the fantasy world of romance novels and the playhouses of the Free City, and unlike Talin, whose interactions with heroic adventurers stopping at the Able Carter Coaching Inn kept alive her belief in the goodness of humanity, Tarn has remained on the streets of Diamond Lake, and all too aware of the intense corruption that permeates practically every facet of life. He thinks he has figured out how to play the game, and intends to use this knowledge to win a better life for himself, and for the people he cares about most. Although he might be more willing to "get his hands dirty" than Talin is, this doesn't mean he has any intention of allowing his day-to-day dealings affect who he is at the core. Will Tarn beat despicable men like Smenk and Neff at their own game, or will he become just another victim of soul-poisoning politics? All this remains to be seen.

UPDATE: Tarn and his parents relocated to Talin's estate in the Free City of Greyhawk following the attack on Diamond Lake. He now has many options open to him that previously were notfor both good and ill, and the wealth to do so in style. Will he enroll in the University of Magical Arts? Take up Thomas's offer to become beast wrangler/spy at the Arena? Work his way through the ranks of the Thieves' Guild? Only he knows for certain, and, characteristically, he isn't saying much about it.
