Fern is always racing off bravely into combat, and Talin is always right behind her, making sure her friend will live to fight another day. Fern's sad look might be interpreted to mean she's in a lot of pain, but in all likelihood, she's just getting fidgety waiting for a chance to get back into the thick of things and inflict some more justice on abominations with her spiked chain. Talin remembers Tarn as a child. "I'm gonna be a knight! Or a scholar! Or a scholar-knight!
